I Can Sleep Anywhere

Late nights with friends, working on projects until the wee hours of the morning or a brief touch of insomnia, can really make for hard times the next day. After overdosing on caffeine, you still can feel the affects of the night before, and by mid-morning, you would give just about anything for a quick siesta. Designed by Ivonne Dippmann, i-sleep can be our cure-all for these dreadful times and allow us the cat-nap we so desperately need. i-sleep is a soft pillow that can be attached to any laptop and when the laptop is closed, the pillow quickly fills with warm air, music begins to play and after 10 minutes pass, an alarm sounds waking us up. Ahh, a quick and beneficial power nap. Both the music and alarm can be programed to our individual needs and desires. Once the laptop is reopened, the i-sleep deflates and you can begin to work once again, that is, until a little shut-eye is needed again.

World's Fastest Car

Get out of the way, everybody, because here comes Bloodhound, the world's fastest car. The British-designed Bloodhound SSC (supersonic car) was unveiled in London today, with plans for a record-breaking supersonic run in 2011. The 42-foot land rocket will reach Mach 1.4 when it blasts across an as-yet undetermined desert, zipping along at a speed that's literally faster than a speeding bullet. It'll reach that blistering speed with a huge kick from both a Eurojet EJ200 jet engine and a Falcon hybrid rocket engine. Their combined 47,000 lb. of thrust will propel the $16.2 million carbon fiber and titanium vehicle to its top speed of 1050mph in a mere 40 seconds.How will it feel to go that fast on land? According to speed record-breaking driver/fighter pilot and mathematician Andy Greene, who will be at the wheel when the Bloodhound makes its record-breaking attempt, "It's going to be quite uncomfortable."

Pendant lamp Penta is designed to adapt light to every requirement. If opened it provides an elegant chiaroscuro light texture whose shades can change its fifteen sides in a pure dynamic optic chiasm which suggest a rotary motion, once closed becomes a plain light source able to illuminate anything behind. Purely made of recycled polyethylene flat components, Penta is a project developed by italian designer Luca Casarotto (Coscadesign studio) during Foscarini Lab, a workshop by Foscarini.

Reconnaissance copter concept

Trying to boast personal air-borne transportation, the Reconnaissance Copter is a single seater flyer that utilizes two props on either side of the vehicle along with the rudders mounted on the wing section to maneuver itself. The copter aims mainly at becoming something of a daily transport option for the masses. Created by designer Hari Krishnan G, the concept banks on its compact size and ultra-lightweight frame to pose itself as a real and feasible transport option for general citizens of the future. Even though the fixed wing span can really pose a problem when it comes to parking, the petite size of the copter might just appeal to the masses.

This unicycle is easier to ride in comparison to the conventional ones, because the supporting point is located below the center of the wheel, that differs from the common one that have their supporting point in the center of the wheel. This difference provides enough stability to be easily used by common people.

Timex TX54

The TX54 is a concept design which featured in the global design competition organized by Timex in collaboration with Core77. The design competition was held to commemorate 150 years of watch crafting and time keeping. The device is transparent and needs to be kept at the thumbnail or stays clear till the time it is activated. To activate or check time, one can just glance at the time when needed. It is small, chic and minimalist. Of course one can simply glance at their cell phone than going for another gadget but with its looks and various modes it a nice way to keep time.

Shift - A bicycle that helps you learn balancing

Learning how to ride a bike can be a harrowing task for most children who fear getting hurt. Many adults find it even more unnerving considering it is difficult to learn to balance, as one grows older. SHIFT bicycle helps children and riders who find it difficult to balance, to learn to ride at their own pace. The shifting rear wheels helps the rider to balance the bike at slow speeds and once the forward momentum is built, the wheels turn inward due to the reduced weight on the rear wheels. Thus a rider can learn how to balance. The bike also features a swinging gear that allows rear wheels to go in and out. Redistribution of weight being the key, the wheels look like that of a trike’s but later becomes a bike. Matt Grossman, who designed the bike, was awarded at the 9th International Bicycle Design Competition in Taipei.

X-bike

Introduce a bike, The X-bike. This was to have small wheels ?C essential elements when trying to save weight and space on a folding bike.> The frame ?C two main frame elements fold in a scissor action by a skew joint. This allows the wheels to fold side by side. > Steering ?C this was by auto-tensioned cables via variable ratio pulleys. These provide a good steering feel to hub-centre steering. > Drive ?C this was by internal belt or miniature chain. > Construction ?C this uses injection-moulded long fibre carbon and glass shells ultra-sonically welded together. Fusible core, foam and gas injection technologies were also used. > Tyres ?C solid tyres were developed as an option with PU versions performing better than pneumatic equivalents. This project was undertaken in collaboration with David Southward (CCL founder) and Shaun Househam.

Motorola's PEBL-U8

Motorola's upcoming PEBL-U8 is a clamshell phone with a 2.2-inch display with 320x240 (QVGA) resolution, and support for 262,000 colors. A concealed hidden CLI display on the outside panel displays less detailed info. The phone supports VOD and MOD download services, and access to 3G data networks peaks downloads to 7.2Mbps. Specs include support for MP3, 3.5mm headphone jack, GPS functionality, 2-megapixel cam. Users will be able to sync with users' credit cards to make payments, and function as an e-book reader.

FANAWAY

We have seen the Air Shadow Ceiling Fan products. The FANAWAY can retract the fan blades when the fan is switched off. This design allows the transformation from a slim and modern light pendant to a ceiling fan with blade spans similar to conventional ceiling fans. FANAWAY is currently produced by Beacon Lighting. FANAWAY is a retracting blade ceiling fan. When switched off the fan blades automatically retract and conceal, visually transforming the unit into a slim, modern light pendant. Turning on the fan creates a centrifugal force which deploys the blades to circulate air within a room.

Zigo Leader Carrier Bicycle

I don’t own a car, but apparently those numbers posted at the gas station mean that refueling your vehicle has gotten rather expensive these days. So instead of heading out in the family minivan with the kids, why not go the bike route instead? The Zigo is a modular bicycle that allows you to carry a couple of kids in the ChildPod up front, which makes it easier to keep an eye on them while you’re riding. (As opposed to having the child sitting behind you.) When you get to your destination the ChildPod can be removed and transformed into a stroller in about 30 seconds which then allows the Zigo to be used as a standard 2-wheeled bicycle once you attach the front wheel.
